PIO Academy: Responding to Hostile Media Interviews
Are you prepared for your next media encounter - scheduled or unscheduled?
In an ideal world, every news media interview would be scheduled -- with plenty of time for preparation. But what about the times when there's no time to prepare or when the questions are much more hostile than you expected?
Our PIO Academy - Responding to Hostile Media Interviews will cover:
· How to control the narrative
· How to speak effectively and stay on message in a hostile environment
· Advanced techniques for ambush interviews, including bridging and avoiding negative narratives
· How to distinguish between green, yellow, and red light messaging
· How to practically prepare for the unexpected
· Learn the difference between how to deal with hostile print interviews and hostile TV interviews
· Learn from current and former journalists
This training will be hands-on. You'll practice and perform the techniques learned in real-time, with current and former news reporters on the schene to interview and give their perspective. All attendees will come away with practical tactics to use during difficult news media encounters.
This training will allow you to represent your department or agency well through calm, clear, and concise interview techniques, even in the most difficult situations that law enforcement professionals face, such as an officer-involved shooting.
The training will be led by Mark Weaver, who has trained thousands of police leaders across the nation on police-media relations. He’ll be joined by Matt Dole, Ryan Stubenrauch, and Jamieson Gordon. Each instructor has experience communicating effectively to the media on difficult issues.
